EFC Calculator: Dependency Status

  Was the student born before January 1, 1982?
Is the student a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces?
Is the student working on a master's or doctorate program during the school year 2006-2007?
Is the student married?
Is the student an orphan or ward of the court, or was a ward of the court until age 18?
Does the student have a legal dependent other than a spouse who receives more than half their support from the student (the child does not have to live with the student)?

 


Dependency Status

The student's dependency status is needed to calculate their EFC and to determine the amount of financial they maybe eligible to receive.

Methodology

The information provided on the FAFSA will be used to estimate the EFC under the Federal Methodology (FM), which is used to determine eligibility for Federal aid.  The EFC calculator will also provide an estimate of the EFC under the Institutional Methodology (IM), an alternative methodology developed by College Scholarship Service (CSS) for use by certain colleges in determining eligibility for institutional aid.  Additional input has been added to the EFC calculator in order to generate an estimate of the IM EFC.
